Do you ever notice how much of your day is spent on autopilot? Seriously, how often are you just bumbling about, going through the motions, not just in the routine of your day, but with your own thoughts? Do you ever really consciously think about what you’re thinking, why you’re thinking it, or what you’re getting from it, for example?
Today we’re talking about what it takes to step out of autopilot and into higher levels of conscious living. This allows you to become an expert of YOU.
Kelly Pietrangeli is the creator of Project Me, helping women do just that – step out of autopilot into a whole new exciting world.
Meet Kelly Pietrangeli
Kelly is no stranger to living on autopilot. I mean, I think it’s pretty common for all of us to fall into that trap. Her journey to higher levels of conscious living began after escaping an abusive relationship. The work she did to heal, learn and grow from that experience began to change her life and shape it in ways she never expected.
After creating resources for herself to use to bring more awareness into her life, she realised she could offer them to others. Project Me was born! Delving deeper into energy work, what she affectionately refers to as “woo-woo”, she began to explore introducing energetic alignment to her following. This allowed Project Me to expand and evolve.
In this episode, Kelly beautifully explains the difference between life happening TO you versus life happening THROUGH you. Listening to Kelly talk about life in this way is truly inspiring. You have the power to switch off autopilot and live an intentional life. And Kelly’s going to share exactly how you can start, today.
So, let’s dive right in!
Break from Autopilot through Books
Kelly’s first tip to step out of autopilot to open up to higher levels of conscious living is to always have an expansive book on the go.
There’s nothing wrong with a good fiction or sci-fi novel, but when Kelly says “expansive”, she means deep, thought-provoking books that open your mind.
I agree 100% with Kelly as reading expansive books was the first real step I took in my healing journey. They changed my perspective, mindset and life, even though not one of them dealt specifically with surviving abuse or trauma. In fact, most of the books Kelly mentions in this episode are either my all-time favourites or are on my must-read list. And they all have one thing in common – they are about spiritual growth, awareness and development.
Some of the recommendations Kelly gives for her favourite books are The Secret, The Power of Now, The Surrender Experiment, Your Soul’s Plan, Syncrodestiny, Ask and it Is Given, and The Magic. That should get you started!
Meditation to Step Out of Autopilot
I don’t think it will surprise anyone to find meditation as one of Kelly’s top tips for ditching autopilot and open up to higher levels of conscious living, is it? For me, meditation is synonymous with connecting to your Higher Self.
Kelly explains that meditation allows us time each day to simply be. The busier we are, the more we lose touch with our inner being and lose all perspective. We all know what it’s like to ride that hamster wheel, convinced that what we are doing is so important, we can’t possibly slow down or everything will fall apart, right?
Kelly is honest with us about how she struggled with meditation for the longest time. Her mind kept wandering off, so much so that she was ready to give up. Then she decided to write a blog about meditation and in doing so investigated many of the different apps and styles of meditation out there. And, after much trial and error, she found the free app, Insight Timer, that did the trick for her!
Now, meditation is Kelly’s go-to method to step out of autopilot, find the gap between her thoughts, and just be.
Journaling to Step Out of Autopilot
Kelly’s final strategy to opening yourself to higher levels of conscious living by stepping out of autopilot is to journal.
Kelly affirms that journaling is an excellent way to tap into your inner wisdom that comes through.
My personal experiences with journaling always involve me rationally thinking about what I want to say, just to start a train of thought. Once I’m a few sentences in, I slowly stop putting in the effort to consciously think about what I’m writing, and just write.
It’s amazing when I look back when I put the pen down, and even more incredible when I re-visit my journal days or months later. I don’t remember writing any of it, and the messages are beautiful!
