How much does stress affect your life? Let’s face it, we ALL have stress in our lives, right? But the amount of stress we face in each moment of the day varies, as do the causes of that stress. What causes some people stress is a walk in the park for others, and vice versa.
Some things I do on a regular basis in my business are things that would cause others a great amount of stress. And I’m sure there are many things in their lives that they’re comfortable with that I would find too stressful to consider.
And of course, over the holiday season, some people find themselves seriously overwhelmed, while others relish the entire season and wish it would never end. It’s the rest of the year that causes them stress.
Today we’re talking about how important a role stress plays on our health and state of mind, and more importantly, the tools you can use to help handle your life more easily. And let’s face it, Christmas time, or any holiday season, is the time when most of us need to be pulling out ALL the tools from our bag of tricks!
Catherine Carrigan is a medical intuitive healer, Amazon Number 1 bestselling author and host of the Natural Healing Show for UK Health Radio. In her 26 years working full time in natural healing, she has worked with clients all over the world to empower them to heal themselves naturally.
Meet Catherine Carrigan
Catherine is the author of 9 books, working on her tenth as we speak! She writes on a range of topics, including depression, intuition, the difference between pain and suffering to social media strategizing.
And, she is the author of an online course called Eight Minutes to Inner Peace, which teaches you eight simple breathing exercises to shift into a state of calm energy. And she’s talking about all eight of them today with us!
But that’s not all she’s sharing. Catherine talks about three different tools you can use to shift out of stress states, helping you handle your life more easily.
I don’t know a single person who doesn’t need this. We all have stress, we know this. What we may not realise is just how much our stress impacts our health and lives. Catherine talks about several different dis-eases today that her tools will help with, like excess weight, panic attacks, high blood pressure, anxiety, pain, depression, anger, overwhelm, and of course, stress.
I know most of you can relate to at least one of those, so let’s learn how to use Catherine’s three tools to shift out of stress when we recognise that it is not serving us.
So, let’s dive right in!
Stress reduction through breath-work
Truly taking the time to focus on your breath, and changing up your breath, is so much more than the simple act of breathing. It helps us achieve a higher level of consciousness AND a meditative state. In fact, Catherine says if you pay attention to the way you’re breathing, you can tell just how stressed you are.
When we’re stressed, we breathe primarily into our upper chest, but when we’re breathing into our belly, we are much more relaxed.
Catherine says that since stress is a factor in every dis-ease, we need to have manageable ways to cope, deal and minimise our stress levels – and breath-work is one of those ways!
When you learn how to breathe consciously, in a way that empowers you to switch out of your stress state, it expands your ability to handle life.
In fact, Catherine’s written an entire book on breath-work, and she takes us through her ‘Eight Minutes to Inner Peace’ breathing techniques during the show. Essentially, there are eight breathing techniques, each of which last a minute. Simple, right? Simple yet powerful!
She covers breathing techniques that help slow down your brain waves, lower high blood pressure, lose weight, make you happy, calm panic attacks, and stop that inner voice from rambling on and on. Some of these techniques even allow you to move through suppressed and emotional issues without needing to talk about it or relive it.
Mudras
Hand mudras are different positions you can place your hands in that have a similar effect or enhance the effects of the breath-work.
Combined with breath-work, mudras can help you switch out of the stress state and feel more at peace with yourself because you’ve turned down your anxiety levels.
Again, Catherine walks us through some examples of mudras, which we use along with her breathwork examples, in this episode – you don’t want to miss this!
Affirmations to shift out of stress
You’re probably heard of affirmations many times before – they seem like they’re all the rage right now, which is fantastic. Affirmations are a wonderful way to reinforce the work you are doing with both the breath-work and the mudras, as well as any other work you may be doing to shift your mindset, build your confidence levels or remain in the present. They are positive thoughts to imprint in your mind.
Catherine gives us plenty of examples in this episode, but the one that really stuck out for me was, “Nothing comes in and nothing goes out except unconditional love”.
More from this episode
I know that finding 8 minutes in your day as well as mudras and affirmations, every day, may seem overwhelming right now, for some people. But that’s the beauty of what Catherine is teaching today. Practice at your own pace, listen to yourself, and trust that you have the answers. Breath-work is free. You can do it literally anywhere.
When I say that you don’t want to miss this episode, I mean it. By listening to this episode, you’ll be walking away with several different affirmations, 8 breathing techniques, and 2 hand mudras!
Not only that, but again, Catherine gives specific breath-work tips to be used for panic attacks, clearing your mind, high blood pressure, weight loss, and clearing suppressed and emotional material without having to go through the story or reliving it. That in itself is gold.
