COVID-19 has changed our lives on every single level. As I record this here in the UK, we are desperately trying to prevent the second wave of infection that has already hit many parts of Europe. But are we really as powerless as we feel we are right now?
Today we’re talking about the part we play in preventing COVID-19, beyond avoiding exposure, hand washing, mask wearing and social distancing.
Dr. Michael Evangel is a Chiropractic Physician with a 7th degree black belt in Taekwondo, a 3rd degree black belt in Jiu Jitsu, and winner of an AAU National Karate Championship who was on the USA Karate team from 1979-1980.
Meet Dr. Michael Evangel
Dr. Mike used these skills for 30 years providing defense tactics and strategic instruction on non-lethal controlling, subduing techniques, weapons disarms and verbal communication skills to quell situations without physical force for the FBI, US Marshals, US Secret Service and federal law enforcement agencies.

Preventing COVID-19 through Diet
It’s no secret that we should be cutting out the sugar, junk food and processed foods in favour of more wholesome foods. So, it’s no surprise that this is Dr. Mike’s first tip.
Along with a healthier diet, we should also be aiming to supplement our diet. Dr. Mike recommends a few specific vitamin supplements to help in preventing COVID-19, boosting your immunity and overall health. For example, Vitamin C, Zinc and Selenium are a great place to start.
The ultimate goals here are to boost your immunity and decrease inflammation.
Preventing COVID-19 by Getting Enough Sleep
This is a basic lifestyle change that has so many benefits. When you get plenty of sleep, you boost your immunity, increase emotional wellbeing, reduce stress, increase concentration, and help yourself maintain a healthy weight, to name a few.
We’ve probably experienced sleep deprivation, for one reason or another. It’s not pretty. If preventing COVID-19, or any other contagion is your goal, getting plenty of quality sleep is a pretty easy and sure way to help you reach your goal.
Preventing COVID-19 through Stress Reduction
As Dr. Mike points out, the stress that we’re all experiencing because of COVID-19 can act as an invitation to catch it.
That’s because stress has a catastrophic impact on our immune system, the very thing we need to boost in order to stay healthy.
Now, we all experience stress on a daily basis, regardless of the pandemic. Sometimes you can eliminate the cause of stress, but most times we have to learn to live with it. So, if that’s you, Dr. Mike suggests you investigate ways that work for you to reduce or off-set your stress.
We all know that exercise is good for our body and mind, and for many, it can be a wonderful tool in reducing stress. And you don’t need to camp out at the gym to get your exercise either. Yoga, Pilates, long walks, jogging, or home workouts are all valid options, among others.
Other ways to reduce or off-set stress include meditation, staying well hydrated, getting outside for fresh air and sunshine (giving you much needed vitamin D), getting a massage, acupuncture, seeing a chiropractor, reading a chapter from your favourite book each day, or a bubble bath. Of course, you’re a unique person, so have some fun experimenting with what works for you!
