Cancer is a devastating disease, there’s no question about that. But are we doing the best we can in it’s treatment and prevention? Let me clarify.
You’re a unique individual, right? I mean, you have the same cells, organs, proteins and hormones as I do. Our brains look the same too, but does that mean we all think the same? Of course not. We are individuals who react differently to the same situation, based on our past experiences.
Today we’re talking about how this same concept needs to be applied to the treatment, and prevention of disease. Every person with cancer has their own past experiences, including their experiences with health. The cancer may be the same, but the way it affects each of us because of our differences in our health history, and therefore the way we treat it, is specific to each person.
Currently, most Western medicine focuses on treating the cancer – a one size fits all mentality. But what if we took the whole person into account and treated them instead? That means thoroughly investigating their overall health history, not just their history of cancer.
And if we did that with success, could we not start focusing on your health now, as a preventative measure for disease in general?
Marcus Freudenmann is the producer of the documentary CANCER IS CURABLE NOW, and the director of the TRULY HEAL academy.
Meet Marcus Freudenmann
Marcus became interested in cancer when his best friend was diagnosed 20 years ago. Since then he and his wife have travelled the world repeatedly, researching alternative cancer therapies. In 2011 they published the documentary “CANCER IS CURABLE NOW” and started the TRULY HEAL academy where Marcus and his wife offer a functional medicine training for patients and health professionals.
Marcus is sharing all his findings in his years of research, including why some treatments don’t work for some the way they do for others when battling cancer.
This is a fascinating conversation that will open your eyes and get you thinking.
So, let’s dive right in!
Humbled by cancer
As mentioned, Marcus first got interested in treatments for cancer after his best friend was diagnosed 20 years ago. Shortly after her passing, another close friend was diagnosed with cancer and was willing and able to investigate alternative options.
Despite all their efforts with remedies that “should” have worked, nothing was working the way they had expected. This is what really fuelled Marcus and his wife to begin their travels around the world, searching for answers.
Different countries, different approaches to cancer treatment
One of the first things Marcus noticed was that each country they travelled to, researching and working with health professionals, had a slightly different approach to how they treated cancer. However, one thing became noticeably clear: The most successful countries were treating the patient rather than the cancer itself.
Cancer is a late-stage disease
These countries, such as Germany, with great success at treating cancer patients had realised early on that cancer is a late-stage disease, not an early one.
That means that the experiences of each cancer patient, both with their health and lifestyle, were contributing factors.
Now, of course we all know that there are risk factors that increase the chances of developing certain types of cancer, like smoking.
But these countries were not just looking at the habits of their patients, but rather at the individual as a whole.
Different cancer treatment for different people
Fast forward many years later, and Marcus now has had more than 50,000 people go through his training, learning about properly determining the root cause, and therefore the best treatment option for cancer.
He gives examples of three separate cancer patients, all with the same type of cancer. If they had the same treatment, they wouldn’t get the same results. When Marcus took the time to evaluate each individual’s full health history, he discovered that each had a very different underlying cause, or contributing factor, to their cancer. And that meant they each need very different treatments.
Changing the body’s environment
Marcus and his wife have made a huge realisation along their path of knowledge, which brings them full-circle back to their two friends at the very start of this journey.
You can’t treat cancer in the environment in which it was developed. In order to get the results you desire from any treatment, you need to change the environment of the body first. That means address the other underlying health conditions and signs of imbalance.
Marcus gives us a few examples here as well, such as a cancer patient with leaky gut – a condition that caused her to not be able to properly absorb the nutrients from her food. He also explains how our blood pH needs to be at certain levels for other treatments to be effective.
This is what is meant by taking the whole person into account and treating them, instead of cancer itself. When we treat cancer, we put everyone with the same type of cancer into a box and treat them the same way. But we know that not everyone will have the same result from that treatment. According to Marcus and his research, this is why, and the way to change it is to start at the beginning with each and every individual.
