Are you happy and content with yourself? Do you know what that even means? There was a time in my life when I didn’t understand this concept because I was so wrapped up in looking externally for my happiness.
Today we’re talking about the different meanings of success and how when you come to realise that being happy and content with yourself is success, your world changes.
Kiran Singh is a single mum, Lifestyle Coach, Master NLP Practitioner, Podcast Host, Author of an Amazon #1 Bestseller, and Interior Designer and a Vegetarian and Vegan Nutritionist. She’s a leading voice in life coaching, self-help and the design industry whose expertise has been sought out by leading online and print publications such as London Live, The Independent, and Natural Health, to name a few.
Meet Kiran Singh
With all of Kiran’s success, she’s also known darkness. Escaping an arranged marriage, being a single mum, moving to another country where she knew no one, the loss of her mother from ovarian cancer, and being in debt nearly broke her. But they didn’t. Instead, she found a way to stop searching externally for the happiness she was so desperate for and turned her mess into her message.
And she’s here with us today to share her top tips on how you too can become happy and content with yourself and turn your mess around.
So, let’s dive right in!
Be Happy and Content by Simplifying your Life
Kiran points out that if you have too many ends that need to be met, maybe it’s time to have fewer ends! Simplifying your life, your home, your gadgets, your closet – all of it – creates space for what truly maters to you. The truth is, when we intentionally create space in our lives, we can intentionally choose what to fill it with.
If you’re overwhelmed with too much to do, then prioritise. Are all those things really needed right now? Do they matter? Are they meaningful? Do you want to do them, or do they feel like “chores”? Kiran reminds us that we should be doing the things that will have the biggest impact on our lives.
Being Happy and Content Starts with You
Everything starts with you. If you know you’re not where you want to be, then you first need to get clear on where you are, and where it is you’re aiming for. Next, you need to uncover all the limitations you have to getting there – and no, they are not found externally!
The limitations Kiran’s talking about are your beliefs. She suggests you write everything down, then read it through. If you’ve got limiting and negative beliefs that show themselves, ask yourself if they’re actually your own thoughts about yourself. Many times, you’ll realise they’re actually the thoughts and opinions of others that have been imposed on you over the years.
Check Out a Different Perspective
Kiran’s final tip to being happy and content with yourself is to look for another perspective when you face a challenge. She uses the example of wanting to travel, yet being restricted due to covid. Of course, that means that literally travelling abroad is next to impossible, and perhaps so is travelling within your own country.
Yet, there are other ways to immerse yourself into a travel experience. For example, when Kiran longed to travel to France, she started each morning with a croissant, watched Parisian films, and listened to music that reminded her of France.
Of course, you’re not fooling yourself into thinking you’ve been to France! But you’re also not focused on what you’re missing out on, feeling a lack of control over the situation. In a very real way, you’re empowering yourself. And yes, this is a transferable skill!
